Brussels called cloud infrastructure a gatekeeper this week.
Meanwhile, Airwallex raised $320M to build CFO software that thinks, and chip makers fit 100 billion transistors on a fingernail. The pattern: layers once considered neutral, compute, finance, silicon are becoming the contested terrain.
Whoever controls the rails is now the regulator's problem, the founder's dependency, and the market's next front. What looked like plumbing is starting to look like power.

Airwallex raises $320M to become your AI CFO, not your bank

Photo by Giorgio Trovato on Unsplash
In a market allegedly closed for late-stage fintech, Airwallex just raises mega Series H: $320m at an $11bn valuation, up from $8bn in December. The pitch has shifted from “move money” to “run the finance function” as an AI system, sitting on top of ten years of global licenses and settlement rails.
T:0, its AI-native finance platform, aims to deliver CFO-grade books from day zero, helped by the Leapfin acquisition to turn raw payments into GAAP-ready data. Airi, the new consumer wallet, is designed as payments infrastructure for software agents, with limits, permissions, and multi-currency balances wired into regulated accounts.
This is a land grab for agentic commerce. Stripe, OpenAI, and others are already in the fight for agent rails, while Meow is leading the push into agent banking. Airwallex is betting its moat is the boring part: licenses, compliance, and real, global money movement.

Why We Still Haven’t Solved HDR
HDR was supposed to make videos look better.
Instead, it gave us blinding Instagram photos, washed-out videos, broken color grading, and endless arguments about why the same image looks completely different across devices.

BIG TECH NEWS
EU calls Amazon, Microsoft ‘cloud gatekeepers,’ brings broom

Photo by Guillaume Périgois on Unsplash
Brussels just decided the cloud is too solid to float above regulation. EU regulators have proposed to treat hyperscale cloud as gatekeepers under the Digital Markets Act, pulling AWS- and Azure-style services into the same regime as search, social, and app stores. If finalized, they’ll get six months to comply.
Gatekeeper status means strict bans on self-preferencing, easier switching between providers, and deeper interoperability and data-portability requirements. In practice, that targets the bundle-and-lock playbook that made hyperscale cloud such a powerful distribution channel.
For infra startups and EU-native clouds, this is an opening: DMA obligations could make “multi-cloud by default” the safe legal posture for enterprises. For anyone building on top of AWS or Azure, it increases the odds that entrenched platform advantages slowly erode in Europe.
