AI’s global power struggle now comes with photo-op shade. While Altman and Amodei politely didn’t hold hands in Delhi, the money kept moving: SportIQ grabbed $6.2M to smarten up your jump shot, AI chip vets raised $10M to run models faster on your phone, and Freeform bet $67M that AI belongs on the factory floor because milliseconds melt margins.

Freeform bets $67M that AI belongs on the factory floor

Freeform raised $67M in Series B funding to expand its AI-powered laser manufacturing technology. The company says it may be the only factory running Nvidia H200 GPU clusters on-site — a move that helps it make real-time production adjustments where even tiny delays can cut into profits. By running AI directly in the factory instead of relying on the cloud, Freeform can improve quality control faster, protect sensitive data, and avoid high data transfer costs.

The tradeoff is higher upfront investment, major power and cooling requirements, and the need for specialized AI talent. If the model works, manufacturers could dramatically shorten the time from design to finished part. It could also open new opportunities for Nvidia in industrial settings, while forcing cloud providers and manufacturing software vendors to adapt to a world where more AI runs directly on the factory floor.

The Great AI Productivity Paradox

AI was supposed to make work easier. Instead, it’s fueling a system where productivity skyrockets, but your paycheck flatlines. This video breaks down how we got here—chart by chart—and why AI might just be the latest excuse to squeeze more out of workers for less. From Henry Ford to Google, and from labor laws to AI prompt guides, we unpack how power shifted—and what it’ll take to bring fairness back.

Ads, accusations, and an awkward summit selfie

At New Delhi’s India AI Impact Summit (Feb 19), Modi asked execs to join hands; everyone did—except Sam Altman and Dario Amodei, who held their hands apart. Photo-op turned product roadmap: rivalry over models, safety, and now business models.

Context: After OpenAI signaled ads in ChatGPT, Anthropic took a swipe in Super Bowl spots; Altman hit back in response on X, calling the stance “dishonest” and “authoritarian.”

Meanwhile, both deepen India plays: OpenAI with new offices and TCS ties; Anthropic with an Infosys alignment. Signal: India is angling to be the AI deployment zone and policy broker. For startups, the read is simple—compete hard on monetization and distribution, coordinate just enough on standards, and respect state-led stagecraft.
