Good morning, founders,
Google's brain trust just threw the off-switch on curiosity for its own sake.
Two exits in one week, both legends, both walking away from the company that let them think long thoughts on someone else's dime. What they're walking toward says more: one's chasing product revenue, the other's building machines that invent themselves. The monks left the monastery.
The question now is whether the people writing the checks will follow them—or demand a different priesthood entirely.

FOUNDER BOARD
🔐 SOC 2 compliance, explained: SaaS teams can decide if and when they need it, and why buyers demand all 5 trust criteria.
🍟 Q2 profit $2.36B beats estimates, but McDonald’s US comps crawl 0.8% amid fewer digital deals; new US chief named.
🧠 Say less, land more: design messages for how brains process info; clarity beats complexity and curbs cognitive load.
🔇 Post-investment cuts to marketing turn a week's headline into months of lost momentum, and sink thousands or millions.
🌱 Skipping juniors backfires—outside hires need ~6 months to ramp; empower teams to deliver customer value, not tasks.
Cap Table Template for Startups
Slidebean’s Cap Table Template gives founders a clear and practical way to organize and visualize ownership from day one. Instead of juggling spreadsheets or guessing equity splits, this tool helps startups model current and future share distribution, understand dilution scenarios, and plan fundraising rounds with confidence.

SPONSOR
Customer agents you can test, version, and trust in production.
Most teams treat AI agents like a black box. They wire together a workflow tool, a speech vendor, and a transcription API, then hope the result behaves. When it doesn't, there's no way to know why, and no safe way to change it.
ElevenAgents treats customer agents like software. Built on the voice models the market already builds on, it runs voice, chat, email, transcription, and reasoning in one pipeline, so a customer can start in chat, escalate to a call, and follow up over email without losing context. Voice responses come back in under 400 milliseconds.
Then you get the controls stitched-together stacks can't offer. A/B test prompts and personas with Experiments. Enforce behavior with Guardrails. Version every change, ship improvements, roll back mistakes. Plug in any LLM and ground answers in your knowledge base.
Launch in minutes, improve every week. Transparent, flat pricing at $0.08 per minute.

STARTUP NEWS
Jeff Dean automates science, manually ejects from Google
In case you missed it, the guy whose name is literally attached to the way modern computers think just walked out of Google. Jeff Dean, Chief Scientist, 27 years deep, gone. And he didn't leave alone.
He raided the vault on the way out. Three of Google's most foundational minds followed him into a new venture called Discovery Loop, a startup betting that AI shouldn't assist scientists. It should replace the tedious part of being one.
The founding crew:
Jeff Dean: The legend. The infrastructure god who made Google searchable.
Sanjay Ghemawat: Dean's longtime partner, the other half of Google's engineering brain.
Oriol Vinyals & Quoc Le: Deep learning heavyweights who basically wrote the playbook everyone else copies.
So what are they actually building?
Autonomous experiment loops. AI that proposes a hypothesis, runs the experiment, grades itself, then tries again. First on its own algorithms, then chip design, biology, drug discovery, materials. A machine that out-invents entire labs.
Here's the plot twist: Google isn't sulking. It took an equity stake and is handing over compute for the first year. Khosla Ventures and Radical Ventures filled the rest. Structured as a public benefit corp, valuation undisclosed.
The takeaway for you: the premium talent no longer wants a tool to use. They want an unconstrained mandate to build the scientist itself. Right now, the founders who win the AI talent war are the ones selling scope, not salary.

BIG TECH NEWS
Demis Hassabis quits DeepMind, leaves Google the brain
Demis Hassabis, the wizard who taught machines to fold proteins and crush world champions at Go, just walked away from Google DeepMind. In case you missed it, this isn't a routine LinkedIn update. It's a funeral for an entire era.
What actually died here?
For years, DeepMind was the closest thing tech had to a monastery: brilliant nerds chasing pure science on someone else's dime. That someone was Google, quietly funding a $2.5 billion annual burn on compute and talent. The monks published papers. Google smiled and swallowed the bill.
Then the money got impatient. Three years ago, DeepMind had real independence. Eighteen months ago, it got fused with Google Brain. Over the last two quarters, the scorecard quietly flipped from peer-reviewed glory to cold product metrics. Hassabis leaving is just the last domino. Research-for-research's-sake is officially over.
Why should founders care?
Because the tremor hits your cap table and your hiring plan. VCs have lost their appetite for "pure research" plays. Series A now demands a 12-month path to enterprise revenue, not a moonshot deck.
The less obvious ripple: DeepMind's elite talent is now shopping around, and applied AI engineer comp could jump 25-30% in six months.
What you do Monday
Stop worshipping researchers who build models from scratch. Hire the people who bolt existing models into products that print money. Obsess over integration, fine-tuning, and privacy hooks.
Looking weeks ahead: watch Google's Q4 earnings for the first real blueprint of a DeepMind without its founding genius.
