OpenAI enables developer-built apps directly within ChatGPT conversations

Photo by Rob Hampson on Unsplash
OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into a platform, letting people use third-party apps directly inside conversations through interactive UIs, with an Apps SDK preview now available for developers. Early demos included Canva, Zillow, Spotify, Expedia, Figma, and Coursera—less “plugins 2.0” and more WeChat-style mini-apps. Strategically, this pushes ChatGPT toward a chat-based operating system, where discovery happens in-thread, actions happen without switching context, and monetization opportunities emerge.
The potential for distribution is huge, though questions remain about ranking, data permissions, and how competing services will be surfaced. For startups, it’s a new acquisition channel with native UI and, eventually, payments built into chat; for incumbents, it means more users may start with a prompt instead of their homepage.

Facebook gives users more control over video recommendation algorithms

Photo by Joshua Hoehne on Unsplash
Facebook is changing how Reels are ranked. People now have more control: you can mark videos as “Not Interested,” use an updated Save button, and get AI-powered search suggestions that influence what shows up. You’ll also see small friend bubbles showing what your friends liked. To keep feeds fresh, Facebook will show 50% more same-day uploads—like a bakery serving only what’s just come out of the oven.
This means new posts will get more attention, while older videos will fade faster. Negative feedback will hurt low-effort or spammy clips more, and videos that people Save or share in DMs will perform better. For brands and creators, content won’t last as long, so they’ll need to test faster, target topics more narrowly, and lean on friend-driven engagement to boost watch time.
