RUSHIN' ROULETTE

Five bullets of updates

  1. 🚀 Rocket startup Stoke Space raises $1 billion for its fully reusable Nova rocket, lifting total funding to $2.3 billion despite having no orbital flights yet. The round shows capital is still available for ambitious hardware bets that promise lower launch costs, but timelines for an unproven reusable rocket remain a key execution risk.

  2. 💰 Cognition, an AI-focused software development company, raises over $2 billion to reach a $48 billion valuation, locking in capital to speed product delivery and expand go-to-market. The round’s size and valuation show investors still reward AI tooling that converts automation into faster software output and higher revenue run-rate.

  3. 🧮 OpenAI is facing accusations from an NYU mathematician over its conduct on the $1 million Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem The dispute spotlights how aggressive AI-led research campaigns can trigger backlash over credit, transparency, and academic norms, making ethical ground rules a strategic necessity for startups applying frontier models to high-stakes scientific or intellectual domains.

  4. 🏗️ Opendoor cofounder Eric Wu’s new startup NavigateAI raises $25M to build AI copilots that guide construction workers via phones and smart glasses. The raise, backed by Elad Gil, Khosla Ventures, and builder Lennar, bets that AI workflow tools can ease a construction labor crunch where individual data center projects now need 4,000–5,000 workers.

  5. 🚀 The Exploration Company, a European reusable-rocket startup, is raising $450 million to build Storm, the continent's first reusable high-thrust rocket engine. The raise positions private capital—not the European Space Agency—as the main accelerator for Europe's heavy-lift ambitions, making whoever perfects reusable high-thrust propulsion a critical upstream provider for future launchers and deep-space missions.

Hire anyone, anywhere — compliant in under 3 days

Found the right person, but they’re in a country where you don’t have an entity? Setting one up can take months and significant cost.

Remote removes that barrier by becoming the legal employer through our own entities — handling compliant contracts, local benefits, tax setup, and onboarding for you. In fact, an employee is onboarded to Remote every 7 minutes.

Once they’re hired, the same in-house teams that support employment locally also run payroll — so you’re not bouncing between disconnected providers. Less setup, less complexity, and less time between finding the right person and getting them started.

Samsung bankrolls Mistral, Europe’s “sovereign” AI champion

In case you've been told Silicon Valley owns the future, meet the French kid crashing the party. Mistral just pulled off the AI equivalent of an Emily in Paris plot twist, except this one actually prints money.

Here's the headline: Samsung and the EU-backed Scaleup Europe Fund just led a mega round of €3 billion, shoving Mistral's valuation past €21 billion. That's nearly double the €11.7 billion from a year ago. Not bad for a lab that, two years back, was the scrappy open-weight nobody.

So Why Does Anyone Care?

Because the pitch isn't just "we do models too." It's sovereignty. Not American, not Chinese, just European AI you can actually audit. Enterprises nervous about handing data to OpenAI or Anthropic suddenly have a third door.

CEO Arthur Mensch says they'll clear $1 billion in annual recurring revenue for 2026. Plus, they're building their own data centers and roughly doubling compute over five years. Translation: no more renting the whole stack from hyperscalers.

The founder takeaway? Two things. First, ask whether owning your compute beats paying rent forever. Second, region and transparency can be features, not footnotes.

New models are dropping "very soon." Whether the infrastructure bet actually delivers muscle against the incumbents, well, that's the part nobody can spin yet.

BIG TECH NEWS

Meta’s $18B apology, now available as an AI butler

Meta just handed you a house key, your calendar, your wallet, and your medical records, and asked you to trust it. Bold.

So what exactly is Muse?

Meet Muse, Meta's new personal AI agent, launched September 8, 2026. It plugs into your email, payments, health apps, smart home, everything. It books your travel, lowers your bills, buys stuff via Link by Stripe. Free tier, then $20/month (Power) and $100/month (Maximum). Payment card required upfront, naturally.

Why should you be nervous?

Here's the timing that makes this a movie villain's confidence: Muse dropped less than two weeks after Meta's $18 billion settlement over harms to children. Plus the greatest hits: a 2011 FTC settlement, a $5 billion penalty in 2019, Cambridge Analytica, passwords stored in plain text. And now they want your health data.

Meanwhile, on the trust layer… Meta swears Muse runs in a secure VM with a Sentinel agent, no ad-system sharing. Maybe. Still, the old assumption that deep data access demands a spotless reputation? Muse is a bet that convenience beats memory.

What's the play for founders?

If you're building privacy-first AI, don't sell "we're more private." Sell transparent, auditable, portable. Let users export and offboard without friction. The counter to a black box isn't purity, it's accountability. Watch Muse's paid-tier uptake closely. That number tells you exactly how cheap privacy really is.
