Here's what you need to know: capital just stopped pretending software alone is enough. Sequoia's writing checks to things you can drop on your foot. A seed-stage lab spent half its raise on cloud bills before launch. And somewhere, a lean startup methodology is updating its LinkedIn to "open to new opportunities.
Grab your coffee. This one's about where the money actually goes now.

Summer's here. Larry handles calls, jobs, and memberships automatically.
Air Design used to spend hours every day manually calling their 600 members to schedule seasonal tune-ups.
They turned on Podium's AI Membership Coordinator. It contacted 471 members, booked 187 jobs, and generated $24,000 in revenue.
Across home services, the story repeats.

Sequoia’s $10bn AI bet is on factories, not just tokens

Photo by Pepi Stojanovski on Unsplash
Sequoia just quietly admitted that “AI replaces everything” was always missing half the sentence. The firm has committed $10B to AI plus reindustrialization, its largest bet ever, on the premise that models only matter when they can move factories, grids, mines and supply chains.
This is a portfolio architecture shift: less SaaS, more chips, robotics, defence, energy and critical materials. The plan is to rebuild the physical stack that AI runs on, while hedging model risk by backing multiple labs like Anthropic.
Capital at this scale signals a new default. “AI + atoms” startups suddenly look like consensus, not fringe, and hardware’s slower cycles are tolerated because they’re a hedge against frothy software multiples. The message from Sand Hill is clear: the next enduring returns come where capital rotates into atoms, not just APIs.

No Clock Has EVER Been Accurate
⏰ Your laptop doesn't actually know what time it is.
Neither does your phone. Or your smartwatch. Or even the atomic clock sitting in a military bunker.
Every device you own is constantly asking someone else for the correct time—and the entire internet depends on everyone agreeing on the same answer.

Google Cloud signs $100M deal to help Mirendil replace Google

Photo by Adarsh Chauhan on Unsplash
Compute is becoming the new pre-money valuation: everyone quotes the number first.
Mirendil just signed a >$100M, multiyear deal with Google Cloud to scale self-improving AI, gaining priority access to TPUs, Nvidia GPUs, and managed training clusters. That commitment is roughly half of what Mirendil raised at its $1B seed, signaling how much capital is now effectively being pre-committed to infrastructure.
The bet is recursive self-improvement: AI systems that iteratively upgrade their own capabilities and automate more of frontier research. If it works, Mirendil’s stack could act like an “AI lab in a box” for drug discovery and materials, while also helping Google differentiate its AI infrastructure.
This is another data point in a broader pattern: cloud majors locking in rising labs with nine-figure compute deals, and labs trading equity and optionality for guaranteed access to accelerators.
