Deezer is rolling out tools to spot AI-made music as fake streams surge, DeepMind is predicting cancer cell behavior (with labs still fact-checking), and Google is letting users generate entire worlds in real time. The money backs it up: xAI just raised $20B, OpenAI is talking up to $60B more, Apple dropped $2B on AI talent, and Europe logged its second-best tech funding year ever. From fraud and healthcare to education and entertainment, AI has moved past experiments and into the real world—expensive, powerful, and impossible to ignore.

Upwind raises $250M to catch attacks live

Cloud security startup Upwind just raised $250M in a Series B, valuing the company at $1.5B. The round was led by Bessemer, with Salesforce Ventures and Picture Capital also participating.

The funding highlights where cloud security is heading: protecting systems while they’re actually running, not just checking for problems earlier in development. That’s because most attacks happen in real time. Upwind is expected to use the money to improve how it monitors live systems, spots misconfigurations, and responds quickly to threats across Kubernetes and multi-cloud setups.

The competitive pressure is rising. Big platforms like Wiz, Palo Alto Prisma, Lacework, and Orca are fighting for the same security budgets, and Upwind’s new funding gives it more room to compete. Salesforce’s involvement suggests stronger access to enterprise customers, while Bessemer’s backing signals plans to scale fast—possibly toward an IPO.

SpaceX might reopen the IPO window

Reports say the rocket company is targeting a June IPO, with four Wall Street banks on board. After a recent $800B tender offer, chatter puts a potential valuation near $1.5T, and red-hot secondary demand suggests interest hasn’t cooled.

If it prices anywhere close to that, the IPO window could reopen for names like OpenAI, Stripe, and Databricks. The upside: liquidity for employees and investors, a new index heavyweight, and a reset for late-stage valuations. The risk: tough public comps, governance questions, and uncertainty around a possible Starlink spin-off. A strong debut could lift growth rounds and M&A; a weak one could stall both.
